Chinese technology, UK built, Irish operator

Alexander Dennis and BYD UK jointly announced that their electric vehicle partnership has signed a master agreement with the National Transport Authority of Ireland (NTA) for the delivery of up to 200 battery-electric Enviro200EV buses.

At the same time, a first firm order for 45 was agreed, delivery is to begin in 2022.

The single supplier framework agreement has a term of up to five years and includes the delivery of long-haul buses.

This is the partnership’s first order in Ireland and the largest ever order for EV buses in the country.

The buses have been tailored to the specific needs of the NTA and its operators, offering 12m vehicles in various configurations to meet different operational needs, including a version with two doors, a wheelchair space and a dedicated area for housing at least one unfolded pram, buggy or buggy.

The first 45 units will be deployed in Athlone and the greater Dublin area.
