Toyota co-branded FCEV bus

Toyota and CaetanoBus, the Portuguese bus manufacturer, today announced the co-branding of the battery electric city bus e.City Gold and the fuel cell electric bus H2.City Gold.

Since 2019, TME has been integrating Toyota’s fuel cell technology into the hydrogen city buses manufactured by CaetanoBus, supplying fuel cell stacks, hydrogen tanks and other key components. In December 2020, Toyota Caetano Portugal (TCAP) became a direct shareholder in CaetanoBus to support the rapid expansion of its core business into the development and sale of zero-emission buses.

Last year CaetanoBus strengthened its international presence by boosting sales of its emission-free models across Europe. This reflects the growing recognition of the company’s technical capabilities and the use of cutting edge technology in the highly competitive European market.

“With this co-branding, we are strengthening the long-standing partnership with Toyota in the entire emission-free bus business. This enables us to demonstrate technical performance and complementary technology on the one hand, and a real focus on decarbonisation on the other, ”said José Ramos, President of Caetanobus.

The H2.City Gold is a hydrogen-powered electric bus that uses Toyota’s fuel cell system. The city bus has a range of around 400 km and can be refueled in less than nine minutes. The vehicle demonstrates the complementary technologies and engineering skills of both companies and represents the first step in the co-branding strategy, which also includes the all-electric bus e.City Gold.

At the heart of the co-branding is a change to the labeling of the vehicles to include both the Caetano and Toyota logos to celebrate Toyota’s strong visual recognition among European customers.
